This initial meeting for the senior and/ or caregiver is an opportunity to get to know each other. During this meeting we discuss your goals, food preferences and health needs. You will learn more about our philosophy and discuss the plans that you may be interested in trying. Following the Initial Consultation your Wellness Coordinator will provide a recommended service plan and cost estimation.

GETTING STARTED
Once you choose to join Thyme In Home, Your Wellness Coordinator will finalize your first menu, place your food order, and schedule your first visit with your Culinary Companion. Your Wellness Coordinator will be there at your first visit with your Companion to make sure you are comfortable and every goes well right from the beginning! Each week your Culinary Companion will help you prepare your week's meals, make sure they are safely stored and you have instructions for heating. Your Companion will clean your kitchen, remove expired food from your fridge, and help you order items for the next week. Your grocery order will be picked up by the Culinary Companion on the way to your home. Your Wellness Coordinator will check in with you after the first week and then monthly to make sure the menus are meeting your needs.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:

How much does it cost?
After the initial consultation you will receive an agreement with your chosen services' costs. There is a one time $100 non-refundable set up fee that covers the cost of the assessment, the set up of your ordering profile, and the storage containers that will be used for your meals. Individual service plan prices vary and do not include the cost of food.

How is food purchased?

Your Wellness Coordinator will set up an online shopping account with your credit card or a refillable bank card. Each week your Culinary Companion will place your order with you for the ingredients for the next menu, and anything else you might need for the week. The items will be picked up at the store by your companion on the way to your next session. You will be able to monitor all purchases, and most importantly- no money will be exchanged between the senior and the caregiver.

How is food stored?

All meals are individually portioned in easy to used containers that are labeled and dated. Several types of containers are available and matched to the senior to ensure ease of use.

My mom doesn't eat much- won't a full menu be expensive?

Our menus are based on a food prep model- this allows us to use a few proteins in a creative way to expand into a few meals. For example- one roast chicken can create individual sized potpies, soup, pasta or rice bakes, chicken salad, croquettes.... Preparing one box of pasta and mixing it with a variety of sauces and dishes can make one box last a week. We know seniors are easily overwhelmed by too much food or food that is too "fancy"- we will keep it simple, nutritious, and easy to heat through the week.

How safe is it?

We know seniors are one of our most vulnerable populations. All of our Culinary Companions have experience with and a love for older adults. All companions receive criminal background and reference checks, and are trained in topics such as food handling, Elder Abuse, home safety and infection control issues. Frequent quality checks are conducted by the Wellness Coordinator through scheduled and unscheduled home visits and phone calls.
AT NO TIME is a Culinary Companion permitted to accept or take anything from the home of a senior. Tipping is strictly prohibited, as are gifts and tokens of appreciation. A sincere thank you and happy Senior is all we need!
